We are KONTEKST – an open collective and co-operative of critical anthropologists, filmmakers, artists and storytellers, committed to reshaping the way we encounter and produce ethnographic images, stories, and sensations. The ‘ethnographic’ refers to the study of human experience and cultures. We started off with an aim to collectively organise events and platform up-and-coming talents. As visual anthropology students, we realised that our discipline was not really known and we wanted to open it up, as it has a huge potential to be drawn on for grassroots liberation. Please check our website for more information about our mission and values.
We plan to run more film festivals and other activities such as workshops, we also run a free to access online archive of all films and work that we have featured so far on our platform. Gradually we want to expand and build a platform that would amplify messages that matter, as well as offer anti-imperialist and anti-capitalist resources for learning.
