house_no5 is composed of phone camera footage shot in a house in Galway (Ireland) where the artist experienced severe alienation from the place. Through constructed visuals and soundscapes drawn from specific bodily movements and domestic stains, mostly found in the bedroom, the work at times borrows from unnerving horror editing techniques for a pastiche effect. This sense of rawness reflects the restricted conditions from which the work emerges.
In turn, this rawness informs the video’s questioning of the impulse to narrativize the aesthetic patterns that emerge on screen. Sound and image drift out of sync, the image of a particular drawing implies a relationship-ending, while the audible focusing and zooming of the camera lens foreground the act of recording itself, inviting the spectator into a process of imagining, or making, an escape from a restricted place.
