Light on water 9

Andrew Payne

About the film

This short film is a single moving image showing the effect of the passage of time on the surface of a river as it flows under a road bridge. It was framed in the camera viewfinder, with the camera left to run for about four minutes without further interference. The film maker thus has no control over what the completed shot will look like. As time passes, the wind slows down and the surface of the water becomes calmer. With the water becoming smoother and less textured, the area under the bridge and part of its structure gradually become more clearly reflected in the water’s surface. It is one of many films the film maker has made showing the interaction of light with the water in the urban landscape near his home.
